Stone Brewing Company – Deland’s February Brewery of the Month

Escondido, California –

Stone Brewing Co. was founded in 1996 by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner in San Marcos, CA, and is 10th largest craft brewery in the United States.

Stone Pale Ale is a Southern California take on the classic British ale. Deep amber in color, this beer is a robust and full-flavored interpretation of the traditional style. Its bold malt character is perfectly complemented by a judicious amount of hops, lending it a subtly enticing aroma.

Shortly after, Stone Brewing released the first of its Arrogant Bastard series.

Arrogance + Intelligent Discourse + Very Good Taste = Arrogant Bastard Ale

Arrogant Bastard Ale’s first release date was in 1997, boasting a 7.2% ABV. With a gargoyle as its logo, the product was promoted with an appropriately arrogant slogan: “Hated by many. Loved by few. You’re not worthy.” It is a serious dark brown body with steady effervescence; thick as snow, creamy, chunky off-white head that craters and clings.

Released in 2004, Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale is a variety of Arrogant Bastard aged with oak chips, and has been produced in limited release 3 Liter bottles with a lock three times: November 2004, 2005 and 2006. (discontinued in 2014)

At 8.5% ABV, Lucky Bastard Ale (actually spelled Lukcy Basartd) Ale was a blend of Arrogant Bastard Ale and Double Bastard Ale that is then oaked and dry-hopped. This beer is a one-time release in 2014, commemorating 13 years of Arrogant Bastard Ale.
