The Half Wall is known for its delicious burgers, so we decided to compile a list of hamburger facts for our fans!

1. The name Hamburger was derived from Hamburg steaks that were introduced to the United States by German immigrants.

2. One of the largest hamburgers on record weighed 3,591 pounds. It was made in Rutland, North Dakota in 1982 and consumed by 8000 people!

3. In 1921, White Castle first opened and sold their burgers for 5 cents a piece. It is the oldest burger chain in America.

4. To avoid using German names, soldiers referred to hamburgers as the Liberty Sandwich during WWI.

5. In 1968, the first Big Mac was introduced and sold for 49 cents.

6. There is an actual Hamburger Hall of Fame located in Seymour, Wisconsin.

7. Some slang words for hamburger are: “choked beef” and “a grease spot.” Another term was known as a “Gainesburger,” named after Gaines-burgers dog food in U.S. prisons.

8. There are reports that 14 billion burgers are consumed by Americans each year, which averages to about three burgers a week.

9. Elvis Presley loved burgers and experimented using other ingredients on his hamburgers, such as bananas, peanuts, syrup, and eggs.

10. Burgers around the world are served differently than those in America. In India where beef is banned, hamburgers are made from chicken and vegetables. In Mexico, hamburgers are served with ham on top. In Japan, hamburgers are bun-less.
